Due to global energy crises and the trend towards carbon neutrality in recent years, controlled nuclear fusion technology has gained widespread attention and importance in the international community. Both China and the United States have identified controlled nuclear fusion as a crucial direction for future energy development. Achieving controlled nuclear fusion technology holds significant significance for energy development, as it can provide a stable power supply and potentially replace coal-fired and thermal power in the future.

There are two paths to achieving controlled nuclear fusion. One is to build large-scale devices, and the other is to achieve a very strong magnetic field within a sufficiently small range. The representative of thefirst approach is the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), which inevitably leads to higher costs.General artificial intelligence (AGI) has played a significant role in plasma control for controlled nuclear fusion in recent years. The application of high-temperature superconducting magnets and AGI in plasma control makes it possible to achieve a powerful magnetic field within a very small volume.

One of the most prominent companies in this field is CFS (Commonwealth Fusion Systems), which emerged from MIT and received investment from Bill Gates. In 2021, CFS achieved an edge field of 20 Teslas and a central field of approximately 12 Teslas within a very small volume. This is currently the most powerful magnetic field that humanity has been able to create. Thanks to this technological advancement, it becomes possible for humanity to achieve fusion conditions within a relatively small device, which is expected to be around 6 meters in diameter (in comparison to ITER).

Therefore, the key to achieving affordable controlled nuclear fusion power lies in reducing the cost of experimental devices through technological progress. In recent years, the application of high-temperature superconducting magnets and AGI in plasma control has enabled the miniaturization and rapid iteration of controlled nuclear fusion devices, providing new directions for their commercialization. With increasing policy support and investment from various countries, there is hope for controlled nuclear fusion technology to address the energy problem. Both China and the United States, along with other top commercial fusion energy companies worldwide, aim to build commercial demonstration reactors within the next decade. This represents the true trend of controlled nuclear fusion in the coming years.
