Fig.1 Phase I Experimental Base of Startorus Fusion Breaks Gound
Startorus Fusion’s phase I experimental base transformation project broke ground on June 6 in the Xi’an Economic and Technological Development Zone, Gaoling District, Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province. The base covers a total area of 4,000 square meters and will take 60 days to construct. When the site transformation is completed, the core R&D team of Startorus Fusion (including a dozen or so PhDs and Masters of nuclear science and technology) will work to assemble and ignite the first-generation repeated reconnection spherical tokamak (No.0 Device), which will help to completely verify the physical and technological viability of repeated reconnection heating. Once operational stably, the device will heat plasma to 17 million degrees Celsius approximately through magnetic reconnection, drawing level with other advanced spherical tokamaks of the same kind in the world. Meanwhile, it will verify the repeated multi-stroke operation mode innovatively proposed by Startorus, laying a theoretical foundation for the next-generation technology verification device (No.1 Device).
Startorus Fusion, established in 2021, takes constructing the first commercial controlled fusion reactor in China as its mission, devotes itself to the development and application of compact fusion systems and related technologies., and aspires to grow into a world-class fusion tech company that integrates research and development, design and operation and maintenance. The core R&D team has accumulated numerous insights and technologies from operating China’s first spherical tokamak (SUNIST) since 2002. The main concept of Startorus’ fusion pathway has been supported by the Major Research Instrumentation Program under the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Rapidly-growing Startorus Fusion now would like to invite any scientists and engineers interested in controlled fusion energy to join us and explore the ultimate energy for we humans together. Wanted majors include Nuclear Science and Technology, Plasma Physics, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact us at hr@startorus.cn if you are interested.
