Recently, Startorus Fusion once again appeared at the 2025 ITER Business Forum to show its research and development achievements to the world. This is the second time that Startorus Fusion has stepped onto the international stage for technology sharing after its first participation in 2024. As the only Chinese commercial fusion enterprise to demonstrate technology at this forum, the participation of Startorus Fusion demonstrates China’s technological strength and international influence in the field of commercial fusion.
Wang Binbin, CTO of Startorus Fusion
At this forum, Wang Binbin, CTO of Startorus Fusion, demonstrated the company’s latest breakthroughs in the route of compact repetitive reconnection controllable fusion technology to scientists, engineers and industry managers from all over the world. This technological route featuring “simplicity, efficiency and economy” is redefining the development direction of Tokamak apparatus-making the huge and expensive Tokamak apparatus return to miniaturization and simplicity.
The concept of “Make Tokamaks Simple Again” put forward by Startorus Fusion has won the resonance of experts attending the meeting. Laban Coblentz, head of communication affairs at ITER, praised the concept by mentioned the name especially, saying it “embodies new thinking in the development of fusion technology”. This international recognition fully proves the innovation and foresight of the Startorus Fusion’s technology route.
During the forum, Startorus Fusion also demonstrated the progress of many research and development projects. It took only 279 days to complete the construction of the experimental apparatus and successfully light the first plasma, which broke the construction record of similar apparatus. In the following 11 months, the original technical scheme was verified; the whole process technology of high temperature superconducting magnet research and development was fully mastered; a number of fusion derivatives were commercialized, forming a virtuous circle of technology research and development and industrial application. At present, the company has completed the preliminary engineering verification, is promoting the research and development in an orderly manner in accordance with the “five-step fusion energy development roadmap”, and is about to start the construction of the world’s first native negative-triangle spherical tokamak apparatus to further promote the development of fusion energy technology.
As one of the representative enterprises in the field of commercial fusion in China, Startorus Fusion always upholds an open and shared attitude. During the forum, we took the initiative to share technical routes and R & D achievements, and conducted in-depth exchanges with global developers. This open and cooperative attitude not only demonstrates the confidence and responsibility of Chinese technology enterprises, but also provides an important reference for global fusion research. With the continuous advancement of R & D, Startorus Fusion will continue to deepen international cooperation, overcome fusion problems with global research teams, and provided Chinese insight and Chinese input to the development of clean energy for mankind.
