The 28th Dalian International Industry Fair kicked off at Dalian Pilot Free Trade Zone International Convention and Exhibition Center on May 13. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Shanghai-Dalian pairing cooperation. The Shanghai delegation made a stunning appearance with the largest single exhibition area spanning 500 square meters, gathering 19 national-level specialized, sophisticated, innovative and high-tech enterprises as well as universities. It showcased cutting-edge products and core technologies covering intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, new energy, new materials, marine economy, biomedicine and other sectors.
Shanghai Startorus Fusion Technology Co., Ltd., (hereinafter referred to as “Startorus Fusion”), a commercial controlled nuclear fusion enterprise, joined the Shanghai exhibition group upon the invitation of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Group. On the opening morning, Gong Zheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai, led a delegation to inspect the Shanghai exhibition area and visited the booth of Startorus Fusion. Chen Rui, Founder and CEO of Startorus Fusion, received the guests and delivered a detailed briefing on-site.
Chen Rui stated that the repetitive reconnection spherical tokamak solution adopted by Startorus Fusion features compact size and streamlined structure, which can greatly cut the construction cost of fusion reactors. This original technical route was spun off from over two decades of scientific research achievements of the Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University, boasting distinct differentiated advantages domestically and globally. When introducing the company’s latest engineering advances, he noted that Startorus Fusion has achieved major breakthroughs at multiple key milestones recently:
Full-scale breakthroughs have been made in the development of high-temperature superconducting magnets, and TFMC, the high-temperature superconducting toroidal field magnets specially designed for fusion facilities, have been completed;
The Shanghai Jiading Experimental Base achieved immediate construction upon land acquisition, with the main construction of the apparatus hall scheduled to finish in the second half of 2026;
The RMB 500 million Series A+ financing has been successfully closed, bringing the company’s cumulative financing to over RMB 2 billion and its valuation exceeding 1 billion US dollars;
Initial results have been achieved in industrial chain layout, and its subsidiary in Changshu, Suzhou has realized mass production and sales of fusion-specific equipment.
These milestones signify that Startorus Fusion has entered a new stage featuring coordinated development of engineering application and industrialization from pure technological R&D. Chen Rui also elaborated on the company’s medium and long-term development plans. The Shanghai Jiading apparatus hall will be completed by the end of 2026, followed by the on-site installation of NTST, the world’s first Negative Triangularity Spherical Tokamak. NTST will operate at rated parameters in 2027. The installation of CTRFR-1, the ignition apparatus, will be finished by late 2028. The company aims to achieve an equivalent Q factor above 1 between 2029 and 2030, and build a power-generating fusion demonstration reactor in the early 2030s.
At the exhibition, Startorus Fusion highlighted its technological transformation achievements and productization capabilities in high-end testing, measurement and precision monitoring technologies. Its product lineup covers the whole industrial chain ranging from basic signal acquisition to advanced diagnostic systems, demonstrating the company’s comprehensive layout in high-end testing and measuring equipment.
As a pivotal exhibition in China’s high-end equipment manufacturing sector, Dalian Industry Fair serves as an important platform for Startorus Fusion to display innovative achievements and connect with industrial resources.
