The proposal of the “Fifteenth Five-Year Plan” has clearly put forward that nuclear fusion energy should become one of the new economic growth points. Driven by policy orientation and top-level design, nuclear fusion energy, the “ultimate energy”, is increasingly becoming the focus of industry and capital. As one of the representative enterprises in the field of commercial fusion in China, Chen Rui, founder and CEO of Startorus Fusion, recently is interviewed by Xinhua Economic Information Daily to share his professional opinions and forward-looking thinking on hot topics such as industry race and industry chain ecology in the field of controllable nuclear fusion.

“China’s nuclear fusion commercialization process is achieving a key leap from ‘following’ to ‘running side by side’ and even ‘leading’. Tokamak, stellarator, field inversion, Z-pinch and other technical routes are ‘blooming’. The fusion development system driven by national strength and market vitality has been clearly formed, and the upstream and downstream industrial chain is becoming more and more perfect”. Chen Rui, founder and CEO of Startorus Fusion, deeply felt the “acceleration” of industrial development. Unlike the giant apparatus of the traditional national team, the Startorus Fusion achieves miniaturization and rapid iteration of the apparatus through repeated reconnection and high temperature superconducting technology. “At present, the team is carrying out the three major tasks of SUNIST-2, NTST and CTRFR-1 in an orderly and simultaneous manner, and continues to iterate towards the goal of achieving fusion energy quickly and economically”. Chen Rui revealed that the project verification of CTRFR-1 apparatus is planned to be completed around 2028, and the construction of commercial demonstration reactor will be completed around 2032.
